Monroe Soccer Takes on Taylor

Monroe High School's varsity soccer team is looking for a win this week at Taylor in a playoff match for Districts.

The end of the season has come to an end for the Monroe Trojans and the Districts tournament is approaching. Monroe's focus is now working hard in preparation for Districts after losing to Skyline in their last league game. Monroe will start off the tournament with a match against Taylor and then looking to play Lincoln Park, which is likely to be the next opponent - if Monroe wins of course. Taylor has had a terrible season which will make it less challenging for the Trojans. With a win at Taylor and potentially Lincoln Park, it is very likely that Monroe plays rivals Bedford in the Districts final. Bedford is a team that Monroe played against in the regular season and tied 2-2. Monroe seeks for revenge and the only way to do so is to first win at Taylor in the first round. Monroe has not made it as far as the final round of Districts in over ten years and this is the best season that Monroe has had in years. With that, they hope to make it far this year.

I've been coaching the varsity team for five years and I think this is the team that has the best chance of making it to the finals or even winning it said Lieto. I absolutely hate Bedford and I really want to beat them this year in the finals. We are going to be campeones as they say in Mexico he added.

Season Overview

The Monroe Varsity soccer team started off the season looking good by winning their first 4 games consecutively. They won the Monroe Invitational Tournament for the first time in 5 years and this boosted their chances of going far into the playoff matches that take place at the end of the season. There has been many complications as the season went on as Monroe failed to win a single game in their conference against Ann Arbor teams. The only teams that Monroe were able to win against were the non-conference games. Teams from Ann Arbor are highly ranked in Division 1 in the state of Michigan so there's really no big surprise that Monroe has a hard time winning against teams like Saline or Skyline.
